The Republic Defense Force was founded as a collaborative effort between the mega-corps after humanity's first contact with extraterrestrial life ended in violence. The aliens vanished as quickly as they appeared and decades after the incident, RDF leadership began to envision a new role for the organization. Many argue that the RDF instigated the Corporate Wars, which raged for years, but when the dust settled the RDF still stood strong as a bastion of military power with a self-styled mission of keeping corporate aggression in check. Meanwhile, dissatisfied and disillusioned civilians fled to the outer reaches of known space in an effort to carve out a life for themselves without interference from the RDF or the Corps. Some colonies are more successful than others, and many of them find themselves in the crosshairs of the groups they sought to avoid, labeled as either terrorists or targets for 'acquisition.'

Take command of an RDF space station and wage a crackdown on pirates, smugglers, and revolutionaries, or trade shots with ever-encroaching corporate task forces. Or command a Deep Space Colony and defend your homes against hostile giants intent on either absorbing you into their empire or outright destroying you.
